Introduction
March 2026 Page Upgrade
This page is under reconstruction following HTML and CSS code upgrades and changes from 2 or 3 columns to one responsive phone-friendly display.
Inevitability, some images or text may be out of order or temporarily missing.
This watercourse is not actually part of the Ouse Washes but it is one of several where there are sufficient connections
to warrant some mention on this site.
This 8-mile waterway runs between Marmont Priory lock in the west and Salters Lode Lock
to the east. It once formed part of the old course of the River Nene and today
is an important navigation link between the Nene and Ouse river systems.
This page is not intended to be a complete account of Well Creek, rather a series of
jottings of items I've found of interest, plus of course the connections referred to
above.
The story of Well Creek is fairly comprehenively covered in a booklet published by the Well Creek Trust which can be
purchased through the Trust's website. That website also has a potted history and a
photo gallery.
